Description Semetko and Valkenburg’s five frames were applied in a content analysis of front-page news stories of both the Philippine Star and the Philippine Daily Inquirer during the height of the “hello Garci” presidential crisis. 213 news stories were analyzed over a two-week period from 28 June to 12 July 2005. Employing descriptive statistics and cross tabulations, the conflict frame was found to be the most frequently employed across the variety of issues that comprised the crisis, raising the possibility that the news media in the midst of national crisis, tend to agitate rather than inform.
