Description The first three articles in this volume of the Loyola Schools Review John Gokongwei School of Management Edition are edited versions of talks given during the Business Leadership Forum Sessions regularly sponsored by the School.Socorro Ramos talks about her experience in raising the family business, National Book Store, while at the same time raising her family. Dennis Valdes relates how he, an in-law, functions in his wife's family's business, The Inquirer. Josephine Gotianun-Yap discusses her family's experience in succession planning at Filinvest. The next three papers present results from research conducted by JGSOM faculty members. The rationale for business franchising is that franchisees can better manage their units than franchisors can. The ownership of multiple franchise units seems to go against this idea. When franchisees operate multiple units, does it not place them in a situation similar to that faced by the franchisors? Can they manage these units as well as a single unit franchise? Rodolfo P. Ang explores this question by using statistical analyses on monthly Operations Facility Review data.Cynthia A. Henson discusses the coffee drinking culture and focuses her research on the coffee service industry in Manila. She compares coffee drinking behavior of consumers at home, in school or in the office. The research is supported by two consumer surveys, each involving three hundred respondents.Anna A. Mendiola studies the media habits of the youth and their sources of awareness. Her results are based on statistical analysis of data from a survey involving three hundred respondents from selected schools in the Greater Manila Area.In the last two articles, Joseph Sedfrey S. Santiago writes on the challenges of doing business in China from the perspective of China's IPR laws and their implementation, and on addressing customer complaints and its impact on brand loyalty in the Philippine context.
