Description In the 2006 World cup final of football, the best player of the tournament Zinedine Zidane was sent off in a crucial moment of the game ten minutes from the end of overtime, on account of an inexplicable head-butt given to an Italian defender. “Irrationality” was the word most used to describe the behavior of Zidane. however, this article will argue that beyond this superficial view of Zidane losing his temper, there lies a deeper logic; a logic that shows the rationality of Zidane’s deed, and uncovers the truth given back to his own identity and the essence of football. The aim of this article is not only to give an alternative reading of this decisive moment for world football, but also to show how a philosophy that combines the approaches of Theodor W. Adorno and Jacques derrida can deconstruct the reality that usually is taken for granted.
